WENDY FROUD WINTER 2009 WORKSHOPS

Wendy Froud will be in the USA for a brief teaching tour in February and March 2009. She also anticipates another tour in the fall with a focus in the eastern/Midwestern USA. If you have questions or would like to reserve a place in one of these special workshops, please contact Sherri Morgan, workshop coordinator at sherri@imaginosis.com.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS

Three Day Sculpting Workshop
Three days will allow us to come near completing a fairy or other fantastical creature. Day One will include connecting to your faerie guide, building an armature and sculpting the head, hands and feet. Day Two will include constructing the body. Day Three will include final costuming, the application of hair and fabrication of wings. Each day we will be working from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM with an hour off for lunch from 1:00-2:00 PM.

Cost: $585.00 and includes polymer clay, armature wire and a selection of materials for hair, wing and costumes.

Advanced Two Day Workshop
This two day workshop has a prerequisite of previous attendance in Wendy's three day workshop. Students are required to bring a sculpted and cured figure on an armature. The focus of this class will be on advanced techniques in painting, application of hair and costuming. The goal of this class is to experiment, not to complete a figure. Each day we will be working from 10:00AM to 5:00 PM with an hour off for lunch from 1:00-2:00 PM.

Cost: $395.00 and includes a selection of materials for hair and costuming.

FROUD'S PARIS DOLL ART EXHIBITION IS A GREAT SUCCESS!

Brian and Wendy Froud's first exhibition of their art in Paris at Galerie Daniel Magden drew a record number of artists and lovers of faerie to meet the Frouds and view their original art for the first time. Several original works were purchased by very happy collectors, assuring that the Frouds will return to Paris for another exhibition in the future.

Wendy's national doll making workshop tour was a great success. All the workshops sold out and all attendees were thrilled to work so closely with Wendy and Toby in creating their own faerie dolls. Wendy really enjoyed the experience and will surely be returning to the US again next year for here Spring workshops. We are in the midst of planning some very special workshops and presentations with Brian, Wendy and Toby for this summer and fall so please watch this site for upcoming announcements.

When Wendy was in Los Angeles in May for her workshops there, she also filmed her next doll making DVD for the Gnomon Workshop which will feature how to make fantasy figures. The DVD will be released this fall; please watch the site for the release date.

"When Candace Savage approached me about collaborating on a line of Froud Faery clothing, I wanted to try something that I felt hadn't been done before, or at least not in the way I wanted to approach it. Candace has been making beautiful, romantic clothing for women with her company Gypsy Moon, for years. Candace believes in the romance of clothes. I believe that faeries are basically romantic whether in their familiar, woodland surroundings or in their more surprising urban guises. Candace and I decided that we wanted to create a line of clothing that would allow women to "feel like a faery" for as long as they wished to. We also wanted to design clothes that could be worn not just for Faerie Festivals but for any special gathering and in some cases just to wear down to the local shops or a day out in town. The Frouds returned to Lucca Comics and Games again this year which attracted over 96,000 attendees! Brian supplied the poster art for the show on an "Alice in Wonderland" theme. It was truly amazing to walk through the ancient walled town of Lucca and see Brian's art EVERYWHERE - on banners over the streets, posters in store windows, on the side of buildings, even on buses!

WENDY DOLL MAKING DVD RELEASED

Creating a Faery Figure with Wendy Froud will be released on December 13, 2006 by Gnomon Workshop. In this two-disc DVD workshop, and the first for the artist, Wendy Froud explains and demonstrates how to create a faery figure. She begins with a guided visualization to help you access your imagination for unique designs. Wendy then shows how to properly build the armature and prepare the polymer clay, anticipating the various problems that may occur further into the process. From there, she sculpts the head, upper torso, hands and feet, determining the figure's proportions and gesture and explaining how to quickly add facial details with an array of tools. Next, Wendy shows how to fabricate the body and she shares her process for choosing materials for the costume and hair. Finally, she demonstrates painting, assembling the costume, creating the wings and adding hair, all while considering how to give the faery a personality of its own. Once again, we had a fantastic time at the Lucca Comics and Games Show in Lucca, Italy. We were joined by FAERIES and Tolkien artist Alan Lee who was Guest of Honor which certainly added to the fun. Response from Froud fans at Comic-Con and Faerieworlds to the news that a DARK CRYSTAL sequel was in development at the Jim Henson Company was overwhelmingly enthusiastic. Fans were thrilled to hear that Brian Froud was involved and that (as in the original classic film) puppets will again be used and now complemented by numerous technologies not available twenty years ago. Brian will visit the Henson studios in Los Angeles this month to present his initial concept drawings and to meet with the director, writers and development team. Stay tuned to World of Froud for breaking news on this exciting and long awaited event.

Brian Froud is currently in the final stages of negotiation with the Jim Henson Company to reprise his role as lead conceptual designer for THE DARK CRYSTAL 2, the as yet un-named sequel to the 1982 film fantasy classic, THE DARK CRYSTAL. Brian is scheduled to begin the initial phase of conceptual design this month, with no production start date yet identified. We will share all the up-to-the-minute news and previews on this exciting and long awaited project with Froudians right here on the World of Froud website.

GOBLINS FEATURED AT CHATEAU LORANE

What can we say? Our little trickster friends have done it again! They were mischievous enough to get noticed (shy ones they are not) and their antics rewarded them with a prominent spot on our Gewurztraminer label. Renowned artist Brian Froud and scholar Ari Berk (both acclaimed goblinologists) illuminates their thorough investigation into the goblin realm, those maleficent creatures that cause all manner of havoc in the human realm. The fruit of their labor turned out to be infested with goblins and the "unavailable" authors were unable to help publisher Harry N. Abrams make any sense of the voluminous research they submitted (understandably late). Goblins! is now being presented to the public "as is," with some headings included for the four different parts and thanks to Mr. N. Yargle (assistant to Froud and Berk) who sent forth some last-minute updates for Part 4.

Found among the pages of Goblins! are reproductions of the ancient, odoriferous Codex Goblinensis; a glossary of common goblins and their markings; and a gazetteer of goblin photographs taken with the arcane Goblin Camera. Those fearing an infestation (because you know how goblins are) can refer to the section detailing how to determine if you've "got goblins" and, if so, what you can do about it. (nothing actually.)
